Hydration

Hydration

Man is it hot, hot, hot! Some tips on staying hydrated, avoiding heat stroke and heat
exhaustion. Let’s first start with what they mean. Hydration is the process of fluid intake to
absorb water. Heat stroke is a condition marked by fever and often by unconsciousness,
caused by failure of the body’s temperature-regulating mechanism when exposed to
excessively high temperatures. Heat exhaustion is a condition whose symptoms may
include heavy sweating and a rapid pulse, a result of your body overheating. It’s one of
three heat-related syndromes, with heat cramps being the mildest and heatstroke being
the most severe.

The best way to keep your daughter out of hot water is to put some dishes in it.

According to betterhealthwhileaging.net, the recommendation for older adults is to
consume at least 1.7 liters/day, which corresponds to at least 57.5 fluid ounces. In the
US, where a measuring cup = 8 ounces, this is equivalent to 7.1 cups/day. We have
also been informed that it is beneficial to drink half of your weight in ounces daily, for
example if you weigh 102 pound you would drink 51 ounces of water or fluid to
maximize hydration. Stay cool, stay hydrated, stay safe.
